I feel bad for not helping just that one other person sometimes, but seriously there have to be limits.

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

I have been trying to cut back on working on the net on the weekend also, It is been kinda of like nicorette for s smoker just trying to ween myself off but it is not easy.

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

I don't know if this is really relevant here, but greasemonkey scripts have helped me a lot in my productivity lately...

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

I was able to do this for a while but I think I need a Friendfeed timer or something now... While I enjoy partaking in Robert's and Louis's many postings, I do not share the "always-on" need ;-) I was interested in reading the "batching" post but the link appears to be broken.

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

Wow!
You have a recipe to cure internet addiction! Maybe to be really a cure we should need more days offline, but it is a good start :-D

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

Thanks for sharing your tips Sarah - amazing to think that even social media mavens have limits too, haha. Having a life online definitely requires discipline and some sort of schedule, there's just too much goodness that may not necessarily be in line with one's goals/priorities. Speaking of which, it's getting to 1.30 am here in Singapore so I'd better take my own advice and log off soon :P

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

Oh well, FAIL for me then.

I'm happy with my current levels of involvement though. And now... your Scrabble game. You must withdraw so Tamar and I can have our deathmatch.

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

If I do this right, you won't even notice I've gone "lite" :) I've been practicing for a month now. Have you missed me yet? ha ha

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

So true! It doesn't take but a moment to slip down the rabbit hole. One thing that I have found that helps me accomplish more is to get to the office earlier. I found if I start my day well before 9am I get a lot more done. The later in the day it gets the more distractions pop up...phone calls....emails...kids etc... A good couple hours at the beginning of the day helps me get a running start.

Re: Managing My Hyper-Connectivity

Sarah, it's going to be hard to accept and embrace the new "Sarah Perez Lite". :-)

We have highest expectations for you and have seen your strong work here, at RWW and elsewhere. That you're leaving the land of the obsessed and focusing on normalcy is noble, but those of us who are approaching the "TILT" button are going to find our ranks a little smaller today.

I find the break between weekdays and weekends is actually an opportunity to accelerate the online activity, as work doesn't get in the way. It's just a change of shifts.
