sarahintampa: I Did A Bad, Bad Thing

Funny timing on your post, Sarah. I'm in the exact same boat. Want the iPhone almost solely for app research, and don't want to pay for all the mung that goes with it. Now if I can just convince the company to pick up the tab....

I got one when Apple ran the promo in June. Buyt a Macbook get up to $299 back on any iPod Touch. I needed the macbook and got an 8gb one for free basically. I have loaded only 3 apps so far. Let me know what you think

Wow, free is even better! Only 3 apps so far? OMG. I've filled screen after screen. LOL.

Mmm, after reading your post you have me thinking about getting one. LOL! I have to wait until next summer for an upgrade from my AT&T acct.

You have more patience than I do if you can wait until summer!

Congratulations! I am considering one for the same reasons and because of my steadfast belief that devices that try to do too much fall short on performance somewhere. I'd be happy just keeping my phone and MP3 player separate for now.

Well I'm happy to hear that you'll still be getting an iPhone. I think a lot of people have researched getting the iPod Touch instead, but I don't have constant wifi access and the iPhone has been a lifesaver because of that. I think the iPhone is a much better choice in the end, especially if you're a traveler.

Absolutely. I need internet everywhere, for sure, but the wait to play with stuff was killing me. For now at least, I have internet at home, friends' houses, and coffee shops. By February, though, I'll be really hooked up! I still can't wait for that. :)

I bought myself an iPod Touch a couple of weeks ago. I am not sure I would have the iPhone. My N95 has superior camera and video capabilities, GPS and 3G already. The only thing I am missing is a way to use the N95 as a gateway for the iPod to the internet. Any ideas welcome. Somewhere I have read that there might be a bluetooth accessory that works with iPod Touch. Could it be ...?

I did the same thing last fall, and upgraded to the iPhone 3G on launch day (the day before my contract ended with Verizon). Now my wife exclusively uses the Touch.

There is of course another way of looking at it: If you pay the termination fess now then you do indeed take a $400 hit, but you'd be saving yourself $200 on the cost of purchasing a new iphone. There's a lot to be said for a $200 saving!
I hate it when I have to wait for new gadgetry :-(

Oh come on now. You did the PERFECT thing, so enjoy your shiny new toy ;) Saving Money + Apple do not belong in the same sentence, but you get an "A" for trying (and for also convincing you husband of a way to bring home that new gadget).

I'm also stuck in a contract until July 2009 with Verizon. My goal is to wait until after MacWorld (Jan 2009) before making any iPhone/Touch purchases. I have awesome wifi here at home, at work, and many points in between so the iPod Touch might make a great alternative to the iPhone. Also with all the issues surrounding the poor 3G performance, low battery life and constant crashing of the iPhone 2.0, I'm not sure if I want one just yet.

Apple always serves up tasty iPod announcements around mid September every year. If Apple bumps up the features of the Touch or drops the price, then it's so-long iPhone...hello Touch.
